“One day as these men were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Appoint Barnabas and Saul for the special work to which I have called them.” So after more fasting and prayer, the men laid their hands on them and sent them on their way.” Acts 13:2 NLT
Fasting is a Spiritual Discipline (Note 1). It is a way to grow closer to God, to hear from Him more clearly. Nor is a fast just abstaining from food. It can also include setting aside other worldly things (smartphones, television, sex, etc.). A righteous fast is one of humility, contrition and repentance, leading to the putting away of sin in our lives. And preparing us to be sent.
