What Now 2 Do, The COVID-19 Financial Affairs Version

Mar 29, 2020

Now then. What in the world am I to do about all the bills that I have to pay? The landlord wants his rent. Credit card payments are coming due. Food. Toilet paper. Yikes.

What-Now-2-Do?

1. Recognize you ARE NOT ALONE. Millions of us are in exactly the same bind.

2. Accept that there is a logical priority to all things in God’s creation. Food first. Pray for provision: “Give us today our daily bread.” (Matthew 6:11 NIV).

3. Do a budget for the week or the month.

4. Communicate your need to God. Yes, pray again (“The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.” James 5:16 NLT). Place the budget before God and ask God to give you wisdom in managing it (“If you want to know what God wants you to do, ask him, and he will gladly tell you, for he is always ready to give a bountiful supply of wisdom to all who ask him.” James 1:5 TLB).

5. No work of God comes without you doing your part. That means having faith and belief, and taking action.

6. Communicate your situation to each of your creditors. By telephone, or in person. Avoid email. Recognize that organizations from utility companies to banks are providing forbearance in this crisis. Even the IRS. No disconnects. Payment deferrals. Your part is to communicate and ask.

7. Make a complete list of names and phone numbers now. Start the calls now. Stress will be replaced with the peace of certainty. Start over at 3 if necessary.

8. And you will be surprised at the fullness of God’s provision in all of this. See Strategy 7 on Joy (https://bit.ly/3QgmaLF).
