The importance of disciplined worship is demonstrated by each of the great patriarchs of Genesis. In Genesis 12:8, Abraham “pitched his tent with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; there he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord.” Likewise in Genesis 26:25, Abraham’s son Isaac “built an altar there [Beersheba] and called on the name of the Lord, and he pitched his tent there; and there Isaac’s servants dug a well.” Finally, Isaac’s son Jacob “bought for a hundred pieces of money the piece of land on which he had pitched his tent. There he erected an altar and called it El-Elohe-Israel [the God of Israel]” (Genesis 33:19-20).
The message is clear. We are to be deliberate. We pause. We pitch our tent where God ordains and give back to God the best He has given us.
