Those who wait on the Lord for help will find their strength renewed. They will rise up on wings like eagles; they will run and not get weary; they will walk and not grow weak. Isaiah 40:31
This is a beautiful word picture of the ability of an eagle to stretch out its wings and soar effortlessly on an updraft. If we give up our own frantic flapping to save ourselves and turn expectantly to God, He will replace our worn-out strength with new strength. We will soar on wings like eagles.
Waiting on the Lord (some translations ‘trusting in the Lord’) implies two things; complete dependence on God and a willingness to allow Him to decide the terms. To wait on Him is to admit that we have no other help, either in ourselves or in another. At the same time, to wait on Him is to declare our confidence in His eventual action on our behalf. Waiting on the Lord is a life of confident expectation.
