Let no foul or polluting language, nor evil word nor unwholesome or worthless talk ever come out of your mouth, but only such speech as is good and beneficial to the spiritual progress of others, as is fitting to the need and the occasion, that it may be a blessing and give the grace of God to those who hear it. Ephesians 4:29 AMPC
Emotionally intelligent minds (Note 1) embrace the principle of five things you must always ask yourself before you say anything (Note 2):
- Does this need to be said?
- Does this need to be said by me?
- Does this need to be said by me now?
- If I don’t say this now will I regret it later?
- And the mic-drop question: Would Jesus say this?
Note 1: Variously Emotional Intelligence (“EI”), Emotional Quotient (“EQ”), or Christian Emotional Quotient (“CEQ”).
Note 2: Includes texts, instant messages (IM), and all other forms of communication.
