The Biblical standard of human righteousness is the quality of being right in the eyes of God in faith, thought, word, and deed. The Bible describes God’s character and is the plumb line by which He measures human righteousness. In addition to His Word, God has given us the example of the life and ministry of Christ. Righteousness can be said as being conformed to the image of Christ.
We are sinful creatures and cannot be fully sanctified this side of Heaven. Our every thought, word, and deed is either sanctification or sin. Righteousness is a journey on which God uses our sinful detours to teach us sanctifying lessons. Never let God show you a truth that you don’t immediately begin to live up to. We may realize instantly that we have sinned, or realization may come later. It depends how close we are walking with the Holy Spirit. Never mind. At the first moment of awareness, we must go before God and both admit and repent from our sin.
“If we confess our sins to God, He will keep his promise and do what is right: He will forgive us our sins and purify us from all our wrongdoing. 1 John 1:9, GNT
